Vasyl Solodkyy has established himself in recent years as one of the top talents on the European opera scene, distinguishing himself in renowned international singing competitions: among the winners of the “Renata Tebaldi” in 2022, finalist of the “BBC Cardiff Singer of the world” in 2023.
Ukrainian born, he began studying piano in his homecountry at the age of six and continued after moving to Italy. In Italy he discovered his love for opera and began to study singing under the guidance of soprano Valeria Esposito, still today his vocal trainer. In 2018, he was admitted to Accademia Verdiana of the Teatro Regio di Parma, and in the same year he became one of the soloists of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation.
Among the leading roles already debuted, Alfredo Germont in La traviata and Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut (both at the Immling Festival in Halfing), Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (Teatro Verdi di Treiste), the title role of Edgar (Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago), Radamès in Aida (Lithuanian National Opera in Vilnius), Ismaele in Nabucco (Cologne Opera), the title role in Idomeneo and Tom Rakewell in Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress (both at Staatstheater Mainz), Fenton in Falstaff (Teatro Verdi in Busseto for the Festival Verdi), tenor in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem (Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome).
Highlights of his career include also the production of Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov with M° Riccardo Chailly for the season 2022-2023 opening of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Uriel in Händel’s The creation conducted by M° Fabio Luisi for the opening night of the 47° Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson, at the Polish National Opera / Teater Wielki in Warsaw.
