Romanian tenor Teodor Ilincai has performed at many of world leading opera houses, including Royal Ballet & Opera London, Opéra National de Paris, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real de Madrid, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Opéra de Lausanne, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Semperoper Dresden, Opera Australia, Opera Carlo Felice di Genova and many others.
His international debut took place in 2009 when he was invited to sing Macduff in Macbeth at Hamburg State Opera. Later that year, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera as Ismaele in Nabucco and at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London as Rodolfo in La bohème.
At the beginning of his career Teodor Ilincai devoted to the lyric repertoire with roles as Rodolfo, Alfredo in La traviata, Faust, Roméo, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Lensky in Eugene Onegin. In recent years he dedicated also to the dramatic repertoire with roles as Otello, Calaf in Turandot, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Don Carlo, Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur, Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci.
Highlights of recent seasons include Tosca at Staatsoper Berlin and also in Bilbao, Dresden and Tokyo; Don Carlo at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Carmen at Staatsoper Hamburg; Cavalleria Rusticana at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and at Liceu de Barcelona; Turandot at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Grand Théâtre de Genève and Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago; La traviata at Teatro Real de Madrid; Madama Butterfly in Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna and for the US debut at San Diego Opera.
Teodor Ilincăi began his musical studies as an oboist, then he turned his attention to singing and graduated from the National University of Music in Bucharest. In 2010 he won the Second Prize at the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona, which brought him his first apperance on the stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona as Rodolfo in La bohème in 2012.
He has also won high praise as a published poet and aphorisms writer (Cromatisme, 2013 and Mozaic, 2019). In 2018 he was conferred the Officer Rank of of The Order of the Romanian Crown by Her Majesty Margareta of Romania.
