The Slovenian soprano Rebeka Lokar attended music school in her hometown Maribor and refined her technique under the guidance of the Italian baritone Mauro Augustini. In 2007, she received a scholarship from the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto and she went on tour in Japan as Tisbe in La cenerentola.

She began her career as a mezzo and after the first appearances on stage at the Slovene National Theatre of Maribor, in 2009 she had her debut with several leading roles as Amneris in Aida, Fenena in Nabucco and Maddalena in Rigoletto.

After switching to the soprano repertoire, in the season 2010/2011, she performed in La traviata and in Rigoletto at Teatro la Fenice in Venice, then in 2012 she debuted her first soprano leading roles: Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at Teatro Regio in Turin under the baton of Renato Palumbo, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at Terni Summer Festival, soprano solo in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Maribor.

Since then her repertoire enriched with many demanding soprano dramatic roles, such as the title roles of Turandot (Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Teatro Regio in Turin, Arena di Verona, Las Palmas, Teatro Regio Parma), of Aida (Arena di Verona), of Adriana Lecouvreur (Catania), of La Gioconda (Opera Lombardia, Maribor) and of Madama Butterfly (Turin, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Ljubljana Festival), Abigaille in Nabucco (Arena di Verona, Greek Theater in Taormina, Shanghai, Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires), Minnie in Puccini’s La fanciulla del West (Teatro San Carlo, Opera Lombardia), Hélène in  I vespri siciliani (Zagreb), Leonora in Il trovatore (Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa).

Rebeka Lokar has already worked with such conductors as Gianandrea Noseda, Juraj Valcuha, Daniel Oren, Jordi Bernacer, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Gabriele Ferro, and with such stage directors as Pierluigi Pizzi, Hugo de Ana, Arnaud Bernard, Stefano Poda, Ferzan Ozpetek, Uwe Schwarz, Alessandro Talevi.

Recent highlight are: Nabucco in Ancona; Turandot at Teatro Verdi di Trieste and in Maribor; Tosca at Ljubljana Festival and in Maribor; Aida at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Madama Butterfly in Maribor; Turandot at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; Madama Butterfly with Teatro La Fenice Venice at Lubljana Festival; Don Carlo (Elisabetta) in Maribor and in Rjieka; Adriana Lecouvreur (title role debut) at Teatro Bellini in Catania; La Gioconda and La Fanciulla del West in the theatres of Opera Lombardia (Brescia, Como, Pavia and Cremona); Madama Butterfly and La Gioconda (title role debut) in Maribor; Pagliacci (Nedda) at Macerata Opera Festival; Gala Puccini and Nabucco at Teatro Colon de Buenos Aires.

The next projects include Nabucco at Gaulitana Festival (Malta), Tosca at Auditorium Nacional Madrid.
