One of the most established conductors in the international scene, especially for the opera repertoire, Italian and not, Stefano Ranzani has already appeared at the most important musical institutions, including Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan New York, Opéra National de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Washington Opera, Liceu de Barcelona, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, Opernhaus Zürich, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Born in Milan, he graduated in violin at a very young age his hometown. While he was going on with studies of piano and composition, he entered the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala as one of the principal violinists. From 1983 he dedicated also to orchestral conduction, studying with Leonard Bernstein and becoming assistant of Gianandrea Gavazzeni.

In the meantime he dedicated himself to symphonic repertory and in 1987 he made his successful debut with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala. Since then he has been regularly invited for the following seasons. He is a frequent guest conductor of some among the world’s great orchestral companies, such as Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Orchestra Nazionale della Rai di Torino, English Northern Philharmonia, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Hamburgische Symphoniker, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

From 2007 to 2008 he has been Music Director of the Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” in Catania.

During his career he conducted many important productions such as Il trittico and La bohème at Metropolitan New York, Lucia di Lammermoor, I due Foscari, Adriana Lecouvreur, Simon Boccanegra at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, La bohème at Opéra National in Paris, Madama Butterfly at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Stiffelio at Opernhaus Zürich, Mefistofele at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Orleanskaya Deva at Washington Opera, Evgenij Onegin at Staatsoper Hamburg.
