Vladimir Stoyanov has gained international recognition for his interpretative skills and musical talents as one of the leading baritone in the nowadays opera scene. He has already beaten the boards of the world leading theatres such as Covent Garden in London, Teatro Real Madrid, Opéra de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Liceu de Barcelona, Bayerische Staatsoper of Munich, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper Berlin, San Francisco Opera, New National Theatre Tokyo, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. He works with some of the most prestigious conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Myung-Whun Chung.

Bulgarian, Stoyanov was born in Pernik and he graduated from the National Music Academy “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, then a grant gave him the chance to study in Rome, at the Bulgarian Academy for Arts “Boris Christov”, under the guidance of the bass Nicola Ghiuselev, who has been fundamental for his artistic growth. In Italy he studied also at the Accademia della Scala in Milan. Following three successful seasons with the Plovdiv Opera House, since 1999 he has been an independent soloist. 

In 1996 was his Sofian debut in Don Carlos. His first appearance in Italy was two years later at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli in Macbeth. Since then he has begun a tremendous career that brought him in the leading opera houses of the world: Teatro alla Scala Milan (La forza del destino, La traviata), Staatsoper Berlin (Macbeth, La traviata, L’elisir d’amore, La bohème), Wiener Staatsoper (La traviata), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Lucia di Lammermoor), Opernhaus Zurich (Rimskij-Korsakov’s La sposa dello Zar, Mussorskij’s Boris Godunov, Un ballo in maschera, Massenet’s Le Cid, Don Carlos and La traviata).

In 2008 he had his debut at Metropolitan New York with The queen of spades and Lucia di Lammermoor.

In recent years some successes of his have been The queen of spades conducted by Antonio Pappano and La traviata at ROH Covent Garden London, Otello at Teatro Real de Madrid and at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Il trovatore at Los Angeles Opera, Rigoletto at Palau de les Arts in Valencia, La traviata at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Staatsoper Berlin, Arena di Verona, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Don Carlos at Opéra de Paris and Liceu in Barcelona, Madama Butterfly and Il pirata at Teatro Real Madrid, Nabucco at NCPA Beijing,Un ballo in maschera and Falstaff under the baton of Myung-whun Chung at Teatro La Fenice di Venezia,Macbeth, I due Foscari,Don Carlo, Ernani, Simon Boccanegra and Nabucco at Festival Verdi Parma,Otello (Jago) in Baden Baden staged by Robert Wilson with Berliner Philharmoniker and Zubin Mehta.
