Soprano “with a rich amber tone, smooth in the mid and lower registers, bright in the upper register, and distinguished by its crystal-clear, well-centred high notes”, Maria Laura Iacobellis has already stepped onto the stages of major Italian and international theatres in leading roles as Violetta in La Traviata (Opera Australia at Regent Theatre in Melbourne under the baton of M° Giampaolo Bisanti), Norina in Don Pasquale (Opéra Royal de Wallonie de Liège), Adalgisa in Norma (Teatro Regio di Parma with M° Renato Palumbo; Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by M° Michele Spotti), Armida in Händel’s Rinaldo (Teatro La Fenice di Venezia with M° Federico Maria Sardelli and staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi), Liù in Turandot (Rete Lirica Marche), Musetta in La bohème (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari), Nannetta in Falstaff (Opera Lombardia, Rete Lirica Marche), Elvira in I Puritani (Opera Lombardia), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Opera di Roma staged by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by M° Michele Spotti).
Her versatile voice enables her to approach sacred repertoire successfully as well: Petite messe solennelle and Messa di Gloria by Rossini, Mozart’s Requiem, Pergolesi’s Stabat mater, Vivaldiìs Gloria, Bellini’s Messa in La minore.
Maria Laura Iacobellis graduated in opera singing at a very young age and subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Music with honors and a special mention of merit from the “Duni” Conservatoire in Matera, where she also went on to graduate in Composition, again with honors. Among the various awards she has received are: First Prize and the Audience Award at the 11th edition of the “Magda Olivero” International Opera Competition in Milan (2017), the 69th edition of the AsLiCo Competition (2018), and the “Best Italian Voice Award” at the CLIP Competition in Portofino (2022).
In 2018, she attended the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” in Pesaro and, in the same year, made her debut at the Rossini Opera Festival as Corinna in Il viaggio a Reims and as a soloist in Soirées musicales, before being invited back to the ROF for several editions thereafter.
She currently teaches opera singing at the “Luca Marenzio” Conservatory in Brescia-Darfo.
