Graduated as violinist from the Conservatory “N. Paganini” in Genoa and in orchestral direction from the Conservatory “G. Verdi” in Milan, he made his debut at Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova at the age of 20, conducting Il trovatore. Often mentioned as one of the most promising young Italian conductors, he made his debut in more than fifty operas, in a wide repertoire from Baroque to world premiere of contemporary works and working in most of the leading theatres in Italy and abroad.

Highlights of his career include Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor and Il barbiere di Siviglia at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Carmen at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, L’elisir d’amore and La bohème at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, La favorite and Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro Regio Parma, Norma, Nabucco, Don Pasquale, Turandot, Madama Butterfly, La traviata, L’elisir d’amore and La Cenerentola at Staatsoper Hamburg, La Fille du régiment at NCPA Beijing, L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Regio in Turin, Tosca and Aida at Royal Opera in Stockholm, Il barbiere di Siviglia at Semperoper Dresden, L’elisir d’amore and Madama Butterfly at Opéra de Montpelier, Rigoletto on tour in Japan with Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

He is also regularly invited by important orchestras such as Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, NWD Philarmonie, Philharmonic Orchestra of San Petersburg, Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, Symphony Orchestra of Goyania, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Latvia, State Orchestra of Hermitage, Filarmonica Toscanini Parma.

Matteo Beltrami is also a major contributor to the artistic growth of Teatro Coccia in Novara, of which he was Musical Director since 2017 and Artistic Director for the season 2018/2019: in three years the opera productions were doubled end a new music festival was created. Moreover when he was Artistic Director he has also created the Academy of Teatro Coccia for singers and conductors.

Among his recordings, DVDs of Donizetti’s Il campanello for Bongiovanni, Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims, Aida and Rigoletto for Sky Classica HD and the CD of De Giosa’s Don Checco for Dynamic.
