Born in Treviso, Francesca Dotto approached music with the study of the transverse flute, earning her diploma from the Conservatory of Bologna in 2006 with M° Enzo Caroli, and subsequently embarked on the study of opera singing under the guidance of soprano Elisabetta Tandura, graduating in 2011 with honours from the Conservatory of Castelfranco Veneto.
After distinguishing herself in several international singing competitions (finalist at the Voci Verdiane Competition in Busseto and at Corradetti Competition in Padua, second prize at the Callas Competition in Verona), in 2012 she made her debut as Musetta in La bohème at Teatro Fenice in Venice, immediately making a name for herself for her refined musicality and interpretative skills.
She continued her career performing Lucrezia Borgia at Teatro Verdi in Padua and La traviata at Teatro Verdi in Sassari and it was the role of Violetta that allowed her to emerge on the international opera scene, treading the boards of prestigious stages in Italy (Teatro dell’Opera in Rome in the famous production directed by Sofia Coppola and and with costumes by Valentino Garavani, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona) and abroad (Athens, Lima, Tokyo and Berlin).
The many leading roles he has in repertoire, such as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte by Mozart, Bellini’s Norma, Anna Bolena and Elena in Marino Faliero by Donizetti, Luisa Miller and Leonora in Il trovatore by Verdi, Mimì in La bohème and Liù in Turandot by Puccini, have brought her great success in all the most important Italian theatres and in many prestigious international theatres, as Vienna State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Grand Théâtre in Geneva, Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Greek National Opera, Festival Granda in Lima, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, NCPA Beijing, Kömische Oper Berlin.
To name but a few, she has had the opportunity to work with such conductors as Myun-whun Chung, James Conlon, Daniel Oren, Roberto Abbado, Nello Santi, Omar Meir Wellber, and she has collaborated with directors such as Henning Brockhaus, Davide Livermore, Damiano Michieletto, Ferzan Ozpetek, Stefano Poda, and Graham Vick.
