Born in Conegliano in Veneto, bass Francesco Milanese is a regular guest at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and many other leading Italian theatres, but he has also performed on prestigious international stages such as the Salzburg Festival and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.

Among the roles in his repertoire are Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Colline in La bohème, Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Ferrando in Il trovatore, Lodovico in Otello, Pistola in Falstaff, the King in Aida.

The most prestigious productions in which he has taken part include the opening night of Robert Carsen’s La traviata at Teatro La Fenice, conducted by Diego Matheuz (he also participated in numerous revivals of this acclaimed production); Falstaff conducted by Myung-Whun Chung and Les contes d’Hoffmann conducted by Frederich Chaslin and directed by Damiano Michieletto, both for the season opening at the Teatro La Fenice, Verdi’s Otello and Tosca under the baton of Zubin Mehta and Roméo et Juliette with Henrik Nánási at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino,;Tosca at Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Il trovatore with Andrea Battistoni at Teatro Comunale in Modena, Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro Regio in Parma and also in the Opera Lombardia theatres under the baton of Stefano Montanari and directed by Mario Martone, Acquagranda (world premiere of the new opera by Filippo Perocco, winner of the 2016 Abbiati Prize) directed by Damiano Michieletto at Teatro La Fenice; Monteverdi’s Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria (Abbiati Prize 2021) at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, in the role of Tempo, conducted by Ottavio Dantone and directed by Robert Carsen; La traviata at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich; La traviata and Tosca at Salzburg Festival.

He studied with Mirella Freni, then he specialised with baritone Romano Roma and soprano Elisabetta Tandura. He has won awards and distinguished himself in several international singing competitions, including the ASLICO in Como, the Gerda Lissner in New York and the Toti Dal Monte in Treviso.

LATEST PERFORMANCES: Rigoletto (Sparafucile) in Arezzo; Attila (papa Leone) and Il barbiere di Siviglia in Venice; La traviata at Opera Carlo Felice di Genova conducted by M° Renato Palumbo; La traviata at  Salzburg Whitsun Festival; Verdi’s Otello for the season opening of Teatro La Fenice under the baton of M° Myung-Whun Chung.
